PRODUCTION PRINTING DEPARTMENT

A major expense for any school district is the purchase of printed curriculum workbooks, state achievement tests and standard operating forms. In our district, these costs have been reduced by more than 50% when compared to commercial prices because the district operates its own Production Printing Department.

The Production Printing Department saves the district money by:

Purchasing supplies and paper at the lowest possible prices.

Printing forms on an as-needed basis. This means buildings only order the amount needed and when forms are changed, there is no waste in throwing away unused materials.

Printing curriculum materials in house and saving on shipping, handling and distribution costs.

Reproducing textbooks, workbooks and other materials in house rather than purchasing them commercially. An increasing number of publishers allow us to purchase reproduction rights directly from them which enables us to increase our efficiency.

An annual evaluation of the Production Printing Department is conducted to compare our printing costs to those of commercial printers. Over the past two years, the district has saved an average of 58% by producing items in house, providing a great value to taxpayers and a tremendous resource to our staff.
